Rental Terms
All car rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle pickup. This agreement outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your obligations related to the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To hire a vehicle from Car Hire Wickford, you must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with added fees for drivers under 25. You need to possess a valid driving licence suited to the vehicle category, held for the minimum duration outlined in your Rental Agreement. Valid identification and proof of your current address are required, along with payment details and a security deposit. Additional requirements may be specified in your Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations for vehicle hire can be completed via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Wickford office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment, along with a security deposit, is usually required at the time of vehicle pickup. All charges are listed in British Pounds (£) and include applicable VAT. We accept all major credit and debit cards, processed securely through established payment systems.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is your responsibility to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and signed by both parties. It is expected that the vehicle be returned in the same condition as when it was collected, allowing for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. The vehicle should also be returned with the same fuel level as at pick-up; if it is returned with less fuel, refueling charges will apply. Late returns can incur extra fees, so please notify us as soon as possible if you anticipate a delay. You will be accountable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during the rental period, along with an administrative fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance. Comprehensive details, including excess amounts, are outlined in your Rental Agreement. You may have the option to purchase additional insurance to lower your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for damages or losses up to the excess amount, unless additional coverage is obtained. Any damage resulting from negligence or misuse falls under your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise details, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- Use of the vehicle for any illegal activities is strictly prohibited. This includes participation in racing, rallying, off-roading, or any hazardous driving practices. Transporting dangerous materials, subletting to unauthorized individuals, or allowing unapproved drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, exceeding weight or passenger limits, and operating outside designated geographical boundaries without permission are also violations of our terms.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Wickford will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the amount paid for the rental in the last 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be resolved exclusively in their courts.

We reserve the right to amend these Terms at any time. Updates take effect as soon as they are published on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
